Science is a blessing or a curse

Though the blessing of Science are countless yet the question is raised whether it is a blessing or a curse. It makes life comfortable but it is also a devil. It can reduce the whole world into ashes in no time. In reality, there is nothing wrong with Science . It is upto the man to use it either for peace or for war.

Man's thirst for knowledge, discovery, inventions and self-expansion are limitless. He is an ambitious and highly intelligent being always engaged in pushing farther and farther the limits of his knowledge and enlightement. Science is the name of process by which man satisfies these urges and aspirations. Science has helped in understanding and solving the mysteries of nature. And it is just a beginning because the knowledge is very vast, deep limitless and wonderful.

Besides this, the great enemy of man, ignorance, has been completed defeated. Books, magazines and newspapers are being published on a mass scale. Every one is now in a position to receive education. Today man feels more safe and secure, And man's life expectancy have now considerably increased and child and infant mortality decreased. Science has completely changed our outlook on life and things and many superstitions and blind beliefs are now things of the past.

The technological and scientific wonders in the field of biotechnology, genetic engineering, computer application, superconductivity etc., have been really superb. Now hybridization of genes is possible under which a piece of DNA of one organism can be grafted on DNA of another organism. Thus "cloning" has opened up vast opportunities and limitless possibilities in the field.

Science has also helped us in the field of agriculture. There are many machines equipments which helps us to increase the production of our crops. Now, the farmers use scientific methods of farming to increase the agricultural production.

Though Science has proved a blessing in human life, it has also acted as a curse in certain fields. No doubt, the atomic energy has brought a revolution in human civilization but, at the same time, the nuclear weapons can destroy the whole world in no time. The example of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is before us. Science has producad many deadlier weapons which made wars very horrible. Man was never so insecure as he is today.

Science has also polluted our atmosphere. Our seas, our rivers and lakes are dead or dying. There are no values and morality. The advanced countries are exploiting the poor countries. Man has developed materially but he has made no moral progress.

In fact, there is nothing wrong with Science . Science is knowledge, and knowledge is power. Now, we must know how to use this power to our advantage and not to our destruction and ruin.
